Editor’s note: Upon writing out the piece on the subject of who is targetted and why, I realized I had a monster of a post stretching over five pages. At this point I figured this subject was important enough to make it a “series within a series,” and would be a lot more readable if broken up into six chunks. So, off we go!

One of the pillars of my approach to negative entities is that, as with everything else — I can’t control the actions or intentions of other free-willed beings. If someone thinks it’d be a good idea to punch me in the nose, I can’t stop them from trying; all I can do is anticipate the confrontation and defend myself to the best of my ability. Likewise, I can’t stop a negative entity from wanting to target me if they feel so inclined. What I can do is learn everything possible about why they might choose to attack me, and thus make myself a less attractive or visible target. The purpose of this part of the series is to share what I’ve learned about who is more likely to be targetted and why.

If there’s one single piece of insight I’ve found that is key to the negative interference phenomenon (and regular human interaction for that matter) it is this:

When I am not living consciously, not taking full responsibility for my thoughts, words, actions and energy, there’s a good chance something else will, and that something will not have my best interest in mind.

When I’m not in full control of myself, there’s an opening for something else to control me. When I act in ignorance, there’s an opening for something to influence my actions negatively. When I act in fear, I have already given something outside myself control over me. When I’m
not using my energy consciously and efficiently, it can be pulled in directions that are not beneficial to me.

When I am not making full use of my free will, it can be subverted for purposes that are not in my best interest.

Developing on all these fronts is a lifelong pursuit, and I certainly don’t make any claims of mastering them all — but I do know that simply recognizing these things are important represents a huge leap in one’s spiritual development. It also represents all the ways to see that one’s well being is not being interfered with, by negative entities or anything else. The best way to counter negative interference is not by focusing on it, but by working on YOU.

This does not mean that anyone who hasn’t done serious work on self mastery, or is vulnerable, will be targetted by negative entities. Many people will never see any serious negative interference in their lifetime. Many people are also living with negative interference while not recognizing the problem, however. As an analogy, imagine you’ve left your house unlocked overnight. You may or may not get robbed, but the point is that if someone does happen by who wants to break in, they can do so easily. It would be helpful to keep this in mind as I go through examples, so if one does fall under one or more of them, they won’t become paranoid (and thus possibly attract negative attention that wasn’t there to begin with, or convince themselves it’s there when it isn’t.)

It is a commonly held view that everything in the universe originated from a single creator Source. While I hold this to be a fundamental truth, this basic premise is often taken to conclusions that aren’t necessarily safe assumptions. When we say that we (meaning all life in the universe) are different expressions of the same source, all too often “same source” is emphasized and “DIFFERENT expressions” is downplayed if not completely forgotten. It is assumed that all of creation is headed in the same direction, and playing by the same rules to get there, whether the beings involved realize it or not. Common ways this is expressed are “love is all [we] need,” that we all just need to be “enlightened” or “get saved.”

This line of reasoning is unbalanced, and dangerously so.

Lightworkers have a bad habit of assuming they’re the only ones in this universe! The belief is that all beings have the potential to “awaken” — keeping in mind that by “awaken” they mean “adopt my personal philosophy, code of conduct and beliefs about the way things are and should be.” This is a subtle form of seeking to control others, which by definition, originates from the dark end of the spectrum. It’s a good way to either get hurt when one’s expectations are violated, or hurt others in the attempt to make one’s world conform to a certain view. The dark-siders have benefitted the most from the lines being blurred in this way, because it allows them to get away with all sorts of control mechanisms disguised as benevolence! When this blanket approach is used in dealing with negative entities, when we regard them as if they’re playing by the same set of rules as we are, it simply gives them a bigger opening with which to carry out manipulation and sabotage.

We are not all alike. Which is to say, not everyone in the universe is playing by the same set of rules; not everyone is even on the same incarnational path. The light path is one; the dark is another. The path of balance is a seldom advertised third option. While future posts will examine all three and the dynamics of their interaction, for the purpose of this one it is important to start by coming to a solid understanding of what the dark polarity IS. Following from this it becomes a lot easier to gain some understanding of beings who choose to operate from that end of the spectrum.

The most easily understood physical-world illustration of the dark polarity is a black hole. A black hole’s pull on everything around it is immense — it devours anything that gets close, including light. Metaphysically speaking, “light” is synonymous with “conscious awareness.” All conscious entities require this light and energy to maintain their being.

The dark polarity is, by nature, parasitic. It has to be, because as an individual moves farther along the dark path, it is constantly having whatever is left of its own light pulled away by progressively more powerful beings on the negative foodchain — and finally, by the dark side of the Creator itself. Likewise, it is forced to keep feeding upon the energy of other beings in order to continue its existence. The negative path is structured in a hierarchy, with all beings struggling to get to the top. The “prize” at the end of this struggle is the dissolution of consciousness and absorbtion into the dark side of the Source — which, ironically, is what they’re fighting against.

If a negative entity were human, it would exhibit traits that we would think of as sociopathic. Pure ambition without emotion, conscience or regard for other beings. It has its goals, which range from simple energy feeding to campaigns of sabotage and control, and will pursue its goals singlemindedly until decisively prevented from doing so. It cannot be emphpasized enough that these beings have no ethics, no honor, no love and no rules of engagement. Like human sociopaths, even though they are completely unable to process love or emotion, at the higher levels (of entity and target alike) they can imitate these things very convincingly in order to further take advantage of those who might mean well, as they are masters of deception. Another parallel is their inflated sense of self-importance and arrogance, as well as their fear of exposure. As an aside, fellow healers and energy workers would do well to keep in mind that sociopathic people and negs often go hand in hand — a neg can operate easily through a person with no conscience. This is important note because such people will often come to the healer (read: someone with a well developed and thus “tasty” energy system) putting on the appearance of needing help, and then pretend improvement — meanwhile the healer is kept spinning his or her wheels and misusing their resources on someone who is simply getting off on the attention and manipulation involved. The difference between a legitimate albeit difficult case and someone who will never improve can only be recognized by developing one’s discernment. The first step is recognizing that the possibility exists.

When one has a run-in with a negative being, it is crucially important to remain aware of the fact that not all beings have the same capacity for emotions or love as most human beings do. For an essentially sociopathic entity, love, pity and any such human emotions are simply more sources of energy that can be exploited. As is stated in much of the psychological literature on the subject, the best approach is simply to avoid such a being at all cost. In the case of negative entities, you don’t send them love, pity, understanding or try to change them — you clear them out of your space, and you take whatever measures are necessary to keep them gone, period.

Recently I had a friend asking for some basic info on negative entities — what they are, what they do and what we do about them. At the time I was caught a bit offguard by the conversation taking this direction, and the answer I gave was not as well formulated as I might have liked. However, this incident made me realize two things: 1. I’ve never fully formulated my thoughts on this in any organized way, and 2. There’s not a whole lot of well organized basic or practical information online for people who are, or think they might be, a target of negative interference.

Is that the basis for a series of posts I smell? Why yes!

My goal with this series is to produce a primer that will serve as a sort of “Negative Entities 101.” I intend to shed some light on what can be an obscure and even frightening subject, but without simply rehashing material that has been well covered elsewhere. Naturally, some of the more basic info is common to many sources on the subject. However I believe I can cover a lot of ground I have not seen addressed anywhere else from the perspective that I bring to the table. As I will be sticking to my own personal experiences and the insight and theorizing that have come from them, this will be more a crash course than an exhaustive treatment of the subject. There are many “specialized” areas of interest that have been covered in more detail elsewhere; I will cite these resources where appropriate. That said it is my hope that those who could benefit from the info here will find this an educational and empowering resource.

You will notice I deliberately stay away from religious terminology and perspectives. This is because where negative entities are concerned, I’ve found that religion paints a picture that often contradicts my personal experience, and the approaches it suggests to be of limited effectiveness. Bringing a specific religion’s views into the discussion also takes away from the fact that this is a universal issue that has nothing to do with one’s religious affiliation or lack thereof; a point I’ll expand upon in one of the follow-up posts. I avoid the word “demon” for similar reasons, because it tends to evoke fear and anxiety. This is counterproductive, and gives most entities that the average person might have an unfortunate run-in with, more credit than they’re worth.

The subject of negative entities remains taboo in many spiritual circles today. People who profess some sort of spirituality might believe in things like angels, nature spirits, ascended masters, ghosts, deities and so forth… but bring up the subject of negative entities and psychic attack, and these same people may look at you like you’ve sprouted an extra head. While this can be an understandably uncomfortable subject, it stands to reason that the universe is balance, and just as people are free to act in ways that help or hurt their fellow human beings, so too are the nonphysical planes host to a wide range of beings that could be considered positive, negative or neutral in relation to ourselves. That said, it is not within the scope of this piece to prove the existence of nonphysical entities; negative or otherwise. The aim here is to inform and empower those who are already on the same page about their existence, but are looking for more information.

When the subject of negative entities comes up, many people immediately think of the blaspheming, head-spinning, pea-soup spitting Hollywood stereotype made famous by the film The Exorcist (pictured). While dramatic cases involving full posession are not unheard of, they are extremely uncommon. In most cases these entities do not want to be discovered or recognized, and go to great lengths to disguise their efforts, because discovery would threaten their position. Methods of attack and ways to counter them will be covered in other posts; this one will kick things off with a look at several basic types of negative entities.

Types of Entities

Since form is a lot more fluid and subjective on the plane these entities exist and operate from, they can seem to take on a potentially endless variety of forms. That aside, most people, unless operating with well developed clairvoyant abilities, will probably be more likely to sense an entity’s effect on their lives than the actual form it’s taking. For these reasons, focusing on physically descriptive terms is not as important as gaining a more generalized knowedge of what kinds of sabotage various types of entities are capable of. With this in mind, I would say that most negative entities could be placed in four major categories, grouped by their level of sophistication.

Type 1: Parasites. This type of entity is the astral version of organisms like mosquitos and leeches, and posess a similar lack of conscious awareness. More a nuisance than a danger, these aren’t particularly malicious and simply exist to feed. There really isn’t much more one can say about ‘em.

Type 2: Astral wildlife. The animal kingdom of the astral plane. Much like the physical animal kingdom has evolved a diverse “bag of tricks” that predators and prey alike use to survive in the wild, so too have negative entities evolved various ways to provoke the release of negative human energy for them to feed upon. The entities in this category are not self-aware, and operate with a mostly reactive, animalistic level of intelligence. They have a very limited “toolbox” — a set of tactics they use over and over, and are not able to adapt creatively. The good thing about this is that if you find a way to counter the tactics of one of these entities, it’s not going to come back with a different method; it has to go find a new target. Unfortunately in most cases these tactics remain effective simply because the targetted individual has no idea what’s actually going on. Entities in this category are not typically malicious, per se. Just as a shark may be dangerous, but can’t really be considered “evil”; these entities simply act according to their needs and nature.

Type 3. Foot Soldiers. At this level are entities with varying degrees of intelligence and self-awareness, ranging from those who operate around the level of a young child, to those who are much more intelligent than the average human. Accordingly, this is where things get a bit more complicated and open to debate. Things can seem a bit more worrying at the level of entities who can think and carry out deliberately planned, non-random and even sustained long term attacks, though the silver lining is that the more intelligent an entity is, the less likely it is to take any interest in the average person. When it comes to deliberate attacks whose motive goes beyond simply snacking on one’s energy, there’s generally a specific motive, though said motive and the reasoning behind it are not always clear or easily determined, since by definition we’re trying to understand a non-human intelligence from a human perspective.

Type 4. Puppet Masters. These are the nonphysical higher-ups of what has been called the “Matrix Control System;” the broadbased effort to keep people unhappy, unhealthy, disempowered, financially dependent, distracted by mindless “entertainment” and unable to progress spiritually. They are the counterpart of the human “Powers That Be.” While technically the most formidable due to their intelligence and abilities, entities at this level are rarely, if ever, encountered directly. Much like some human leaders are fond of hiding away in “undisclosed locations” while sending other people halfway around the world based on false pretenses to kill for their own personal profit, these entities are known to form networks based on coercing or manipulating other entities to do the more direct work for them. While they are capable of sustained campaigns against individuals that can go as far as to take on a surreal quality and even bring about phenomena that by most peoples standards “shouldn’t happen,” their influence can more readily be seen on a wider scale. Many sensitives will say that some places and regions just have a “nasty vibe” to them; many times these are places where negative networks are particularly active. Entities at this level are thought to be responsible for sustained campaigns and well orchestrated phenomena that lower level entities or even humans acting alone would not be able to account for.

I have always taken the approach that negative interference is an opportunity for learning, both about myself and how the adversary operates, in order to make myself increasingly less vulnerable and more empowered. One outcome of this is that over the years I have pieced together a basic personality profile of the average negative entity. This informs much of my approach, and since I’ve met with much success, I consider it a valuable piece of the puzzle. I’ll resume the discussion there in the next post.

Today’s rant topic has been on my “list of things to write about” for a while, but I recently came across something that pissed me off enough to bump it to the front of the line. I stumbled upon an article written from an evangelical Christian viewpoint — and call it masochism (and you’d probably be right) but I couldn’t stop reading. An excerpt:

A selfish person will desire control over others to use them for personal benefit; an altruistic person will desire such to improve them out of love.

The really ironic thing is that the article is subtitled “The Dark Side of the Soul,” since this false dichotomy illustrates two beliefs that are equally based in the dark side of the ego and its need for control.

The idea of equating love with control is as prevalent as it is toxic. The concept is ultimately rooted in a coercive view of divine power (a fallacy I also addressed here). In philosophical circles this is known as the “Divine Command Theory” of ethics — you do what God says, not because what God says has merit in itself, but because he is bigger than you and may light you on fire if you don’t (rough paraphrase there :P). Since we typically become like the Gods in which we put our faith, this leads to a glorification of coercive control in the way we relate to other people.

Even people who don’t hold this (or any) particular view of God can nonetheless fall into the trap of seeking to control and manipulate others “for their own good,” and equating this with love. In reality this approach is rooted solely in fear. Fear of loss; fear of change; insecurity in one’s beliefs about how the world is or should be. On the other side of the equation are those who enter a relationship with the attitude that love is based on how much of themselves they give up for the other person’s benefit. Both are equally misguided and soul-destroying.

When you plant a seed, do you tell it how to grow? Micromanage its growth? Force it to grow how you want? No; that approach would probably kill it. Rather, you give it what it needs to flourish, and it does the rest. The truth as I have come to see it is that each soul is in this life for its own reasons. I may be able to help you remember what your reasons are, but if I try and force you to accept some version of what I think they should be, then I am nothing more than an obstacle on your path. Upon encountering situations like this, my advice would be to run. Quickly.

Love, and any attempt to control another person against their will for any reason, are mutually exclusive. In reality control is a subtle form of theft. Your free will is in a sense your own posession — the free will of others is not. If any one of your relationships is based on anything real and genuine, then exerting control over it is both unnecessary and detrimental. Conversely, if you have to control or manipulate someone into aligning with your will, you’re actually stealing something that isn’t yours to begin with from that person as well as the universe. You’re conning them out of their time, energy, resources, whatever, and also depriving someone who could accept those resources in an honest, voluntary and mutually beneficial way.

For those who habitually engage in control and manipulation of the people in their lives, the price is often quite high. They depend on the ignorance and relinquishing of personal power of their subjects in order to perpetuate these relationships. The need for control is never secure or satisfied however, and the inevitable result is that they push a little too far, inadvertently awaken their hostage’s need for spiritual and emotional independence, and thus the house of cards they have built up around themselves falls apart very quickly, leaving them with nothing.

The exceptions to this are situations where one voluntarily consents to give up control to another person on a temporary basis with the goal of regaining one’s own foundation. I would place kids in this category as I believe in pre-incarnative agreements, but in any case obviously young children need someone to establish healthy boundaries, ideally as a way of teaching them how to establish their own. Another example that comes to mind is a friend of mine whose life at one point years ago, was on a downward spiral of addiction, lying and stealing. His parents and older sister agreed to have him move in with her, on the condition that his choice was to have her run his life like a military dictatorship while he was there, or he would be turned out on the street. Today his take on all this is “y’know, I’m still not sure I like [my sister] very much, but what can I say, she did get me turned around.” In cases like this, the individual has already relinquished control over their free will, so there are times when “tough love” from someone willing to hang onto it for them until (and only until) they are capable of reclaiming it for themselves, is appropriate. The challenge there for both parties though, is to not enter into a cycle of dependency where the enforced control lasts longer than it needs to. Fortunately today my friend is living on his own and doing very well for himself. All of this serves to illustrate that for those who are in a position of authority over others, ideally the goal should always be for the subjects of control to to find their own sense of personal power and authority.

The distinctions I’ve laid out here can be applied to one’s spiritual evolution, and all the way up to the divine level. As we evolve spiritually, the need for control, whether over other people or circumstances, decreases, in favor of control over the self. Control of the self, our thoughts, words and actions, is the one form of control that is possible and well worth cultivating. It is here that the only real forms of security and personal freedom are found, as is the desire to help others find their own truth and freedom.

The highest form of love seeks to encourage, preserve and protect free will, not to subvert or destroy it.

Well, our network has been down for a while (which would be a fitting basis for this post in itself), but hark, for I hath returnethed!

In my last post I mentioned one of the hallmarks of the Gnostic path: running up against the Archons (insert dramatic “dun-dun-DUN!” music here). The Archons, for those who aren’t familiar with the terminology, are the spiritual “rulers” of this world whose function it is to keep us ignorant, distracted, asleep; unaware of our true divine nature and origin. Don’t get hung up on terminology though; whether you believe the Archons are literal beings, psychological constructs or a symbol of something else entirely, the concept is valid.

There have been times in my life where I’ve literally felt like every step forward I try to take is met with resistance… if I’m lucky! If I’m not, it’s more like hitting brick walls, doors slamming shut at every turn, and even being pushed backward from where I started.

One thing I’ve gotten out of all this though, is that everything can be a tool for learning. Put resistance and obstacles in front of me and I’ll take the opportunity to learn something about what resistance IS, how it works and whether there’s anything I’m personally doing to perpetuate it.

One of the major methods the Archons use to trap us is to trick us into giving out lots more of our energy and personal power than is warranted by a situation we find ourselves in. I’ll illustrate my point.

Say my goal is to make a sandwich. I’m merrily going about my business and looking forward to devouring the product of my efforts… when a jar of mayo slips out of my hand and explodes all over the floor.

Now I’ve got an obstacle between myself and my sandwich, as the mayo that’s supposed to be covering the sandwich is covering the kitchen.

Let’s say for the sake of discussion that it takes five units of my energy to clean up the floor. I spend those five units and the universal balance is regained; then I eat my sandwich and regain the energy I spent mopping up the offending goo, and probably more.

But then what might happen in many cases?

I’m pissed. Out comes the string of expletives. Subtract another five units of energy. What if I start dwelling on how “this always happens,” or “I never do anything right”, grumbling to myself and growing increasingly agitated the entire time I’m cleaning up? Subtract another ten units. “The universe is against me!” Another five, and I’ve painted the entire universe as being against me personally. Maybe I then snap at my girlfriend, and if she reacts (wasting some of her own energy) and we get into an argument: you can subtract another twenty.

So what’s happened is I’ve just spent fifty units of my energy on a situation that only required five, and wasted ten times the energy I needed to!

Guess what? All that extra energy doesn’t just evaporate into the ether; it has to go somewhere. What you’ve really done is provided the Archons with all the raw material they need to create your next obstacle, except that instead of being a 5-unit obstacle, it’ll be one that requires 45 units to overcome! In this way, we become the unwitting batteries powering the machine that seeks to keep us enslaved.

Let’s say I responded to the situation differently. The jar drops, but I attach no emotional significance to this event. I realize my hands were wet, and gravity took over as gravity is wont to do, so I say “meh, it happens” and go on about my business. As I reach under the fridge to get some splatter, I find a pendant that had broken off my necklace and rolled away, which perks up my mood. Add five units of energy. I enjoy the sandwich; add five more. Now I get through the situation and end up with more energy than I started with.

What of the Archons? Unlike us, they can’t take in or produce their own energy — all their resources are stolen, or unknowingly handed over by us. Therefore when they use energy to create an obstacle, they’re taking a gamble that you’ll give back more than they just had to spend on you. If you don’t, they lose energy, and their power over you, the power to create resistance in your life, decreases.
